THE Lord Mayor of Portsmouth celebrated the launch of a new community cafe in Portsmouth.

Councillor Frank Jonas came together with 90 local people to celebrate the new premises at Anchorage Lodge, Anchorage Park.

It was also a chance for residents to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Organiser Debbie Bridger said: ‘We have this fantastic hall and we wanted to encourage people who live in Anchorage Park, to come together and get to know one another.’

‘The first Saturday Cafe was a great success and everyone enjoyed themselves. We now plan to hold one every month.’

‘We have been so lucky and thankful, to have had the support of local supermarkets and donations from charities and residents and this has helped us to turn an idea into a reality.’

The cafe is run by volunteers and funded by donations.
