THE August Bank Holiday weekend will see the return of sheepdog trials to a popular beauty spot.
Around 50 dogs have already signed up to take part in the event on the side of Butser Hill as part of the South Downs Show.
Terena Plowright, who runs the South Downs Show, said: ‘Ten years ago the sheepdog trials were a yearly local spectacle at Queen Elizabeth Country Park and it is with much local warmth that they are being welcomed back as the younger generation begin to take an interest in country living.
‘I could not be more honoured as Eammon Lawless, Andy Jackman and Richard Montgomery, who are previous national winners are among those already entered – the level of competition is beyond my wildest dreams.
‘It promises to be a captivating weekend watching human and dog showing off their historical relationship.’
The trials run on August 23 and 24. For more information or to enter visit southdownsshow.co.uk or call Terena on 07918 941398.
