These 26 cute sausage dog pictures show winners from East Hants Dachshunds' charity online dog show

A VIRTUAL dog show for dachshunds saw pooches competing in all kinds of categories while raising hundreds for charity.

Members of East Hants Dachshunds jumped at the opportunity to join in with the group’s first ever online dog show, thought up by organiser Larissa Carey in a bid to keep everyone entertained and socialising.

With all group walks and events cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions, the show was a chance for sausage dogs to show off and compete for prizes - while raising £330 for Southampton charity Phoenix Rehoming.

Larissa said: ‘I wasn’t sure how the dog show would go down in the group. I had never done one before so didn’t know what the demand would be like - however once people got word of it the entries started to flood in.

‘I love how generous and supportive the group is no matter what is going on. Animals have a strong place in all of our hearts and I know everyone will try to help out in any way if they can when it comes to an animal charity. I cannot thank our wonderful sponsors enough either.’

Best in show was awarded to Betty, whose proud owner Rachel Hibbert was very excited.

She said: ‘It was lovely to have a distraction in what has been quite a stressful time. Larissa did a great job organising the dog show as she does with all the other events.’

Slinky, owned by Chloe Givans, received reserve best in show after winning best ears.

Chloe said: ‘We entered as we love a good dog show and supporting charities plus the chance to win some amazing prizes is just a bonus.’

Members of the group can’t wait to get back out for group walks, but the show was a nice distraction.

Sausage dog owner Sam Brand said: ‘Being able to join an online dog show gave us a little normality as many of us in East Hants Dachshunds would normally be entering dog shows at this time of year.

‘Social distancing does not come naturally to our sausages as they love people but posing for photos is definitely their forte as a close second.’
