Tickets to the debut Simplyheath Canine Run in Southsea have sold out

ENTRY to a debut dog run set to accompany the Great South Run has closed.

More than 100 dogs will take part in the first Simplyhealth Canine Run next Saturday but the event has now sold out.

Runners and their furry companions are expected to come from Portsmouth and beyond for the scenic 2.5km feat '“ beginning on Southsea seafront and ending on Clarence Esplanade.

Competing in a new take on the hugely-popular Great South Run '“ which will also take place next weekend '“ entrants will be set on their way by Olympian Laura Muir, who is also a qualified vet. 

Sally Clarke, director of vets at Simplyhealth, said: '˜We're over the moon by the fantastic response that the Simplyhealth Canine Run has received.

'˜We know through our partnership with the Simplyhealth Great Run series how important exercise is to our overall health and wellbeing and that's equally true for the furry members of the family too.

'˜Canine fitness is about diet, exercise and of course high quality veterinary care. We look forward to seeing you all at the start line.'

It is hoped the debut Canine Run will raise awareness of the importance of pets' health and how owners can get fit alongside their animals.

Nicky Homes from The Great Run Company said: '˜The Simplyhealth Canine Run is a great addition to the Simplyhealth Great South Run weekend and the perfect opportunity for runners to lead an active and healthy lifestyle with the whole family, including their dog.'

There will be an on-site vet at the run to deal with emergencies and owners are urged to consult with their vet ahead of the race.
