Tim Peake photographs smouldering volcano from space

Spaceman Tim Peake has tweeted a spectacular picture of a volcano smouldering in eastern Russia.

The photograph is the latest sent from space by the astronaut from Westbourne near Emsworth, who is one of three crewmen on the International Space Station.

It shows Klyuchevskaya Sopka (15,253ft) - the biggest mountain on the Kamchatka Peninsula and the highest active volcano of Eurasia

The photograph shows a smoke plume rising from the steep conical volcano, which is warm enough to have no snow on it despite being surrounded by miles of frozen terrain.
