PLEDGES to help buy a community pub and save it from being bulldozed have reached more than £180,000.

Organisers of the bid to purchase the Fox and Hounds pub, in Denmead, say they are astonished by people’s generosity but still need more.

They must raise at least £200,000 by Saturday to meet the deadline.

Rob Stark, one of six directors, said: ‘The pledges continue to come in and as of tonight our pledge total stands at £182,200, which is fantastic.

‘I know we set a target of £200,000 but the more we beat this target by, the less we have to raise in the share offer in the New Year.

‘Our solicitor has been told to exchange contracts and in a couple of weeks the Fox & Hounds will belong to your Community Co-operative.

‘So, if you haven’t already pledged, want to be part of a fantastic community effort and a part owner of the building, that will become one of the best pubs in the area then get your pledge in now.’

Local companies will be approached for donations of building materials, fixtures and fittings, landscapers, building tradesmen, loans of tools and expertise.
