THE aromas of garlic, oregano and olive oil will engulf Emsworth next Friday.

An Italian market is coming to the town for the first time.

The market will trade from Palmers Road car park on July 6 from 9am until 4pm.

There will be seven stalls selling Italian specialities ranging from cured meats to cakes and pastries.

The market is supported by Havant Borough Council, which hopes that visitors will also browse local shops.

The council recently supported a French market in Emsworth.

Councillor Yvonne Weeks, who is in charge of economy and communities at the council, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome the charm of the Italian market to Emsworth and would encourage as many people as possible to come along.

‘The huge selection of wonderful cuisine available at the market will give Emsworth a continental flavour.’

Visitors will be able to sample and buy cuisine from different regions of Italy including cheeses and meats such as salame, pancetta and mortadella with pistachio.

Pastas will also be on offer, along with speciality Italian breads including focaccia, ciabatta and campagna.
