Traditional memorial to be held for Russian princess buried in Northney churchyard
A memorial service for Russian princess and Hayling Island resident Catherine Yourievsky will be held next month.
A ‘panikhida’ service for the daughter of Tsar Alexander II will be held at St Peter’s in Northney on October 2 from 3.30pm.
Mr Konstantin Shlykov, a counsellor at the Embassy of the Russian Federation, will be laying flowers at the grave in St Peter’s churchyard, which was recently restored by Portsmouth’s Russian orthodox parish.
Princess Catherine died in a Hayling care home in 1959, and her first funeral at St Peter’s was attended by just eight people.
