A UNIQUE ‘Lobster Pot’ Christmas tree will become a new landmark in a town later this month.
Emsworth is celebrating its fishing heritage for the upcoming festive season.
People are being encouraged to buy a lobster pot from Emsworth Business Association for £35.
The pot will be used to help build the Christmas tree at Emsworth Quay, which will be unveiled on November 27 as part of the Christmas lights switch-on.
When the tree is taken down after Christmas, people’s pots will be donated to local Emsworth fishermen to help support the fishing industry.
The first lobster caught in the pot that a person bought will then be given back to them, complete with instructions on how to cook and prepare it.
The initiative will help support Kelvin Cole and Peter Williams, who were badly affected by the storms of winter 2014 and lost much of their equipment.
Alistair Gibson, from the business association, said: ‘This is a tradition that has been taking place in the fishing communities of New England over the past few decades. It seemed like a great idea to highlight and support both Emsworth’s fishing heritage as well as its reputation as a food destination.’
