INSPIRATIONAL young people were recognised today at The News’ Youth Awards.
There were smiles, laughs and tears of joy as the winners were given their awards at a ceremony at The Kings Theatre in Southsea.
This was the second year The News has run the Youth Awards to recognise young people in our community who go the extra mile.
There were 12 category winners, as well as The Readers’ Choice winner, as voted by readers of the newspaper, and the overall winner.
The judging panel included sponsors and the editor of The News, Mark Waldron.
The process started in February when the nominations started flooding in and each week the newspaper has told some incredible stories of bravery, talent and determination.
Event organiser Rosie Morgan, from Johnston Press South, said: ‘It’s been a wonderful day.
‘These young people really deserve these awards and we have loved hearing their stories.
‘There could only be a handful of trophy holders today, but everyone is a winner and a star in my eyes.’
Full stories and pictures will be featured in The News tomorrow and on Thursday in a special supplement.
