A CHILDREN'S charity is searching for new volunteers to raise funds in Portsmouth to help it continue its research.

Action Medical Research, a charity for sick and disabled babies and children, is targeting fundraisers from Portsmouth to organise events in the city.

Community fundraising manager Paula Ray said: ‘We’re especially keen to establish new groups in the area, whether it’s a group of friends willing to hold regular events or a team of colleagues undertaking a series of fundraising challenges.

‘There are hundreds of thousands of children in the UK whose lives are devastated by disease and disability. It’s too many. Far too many. Research can put a stop to this, but we need your help.’

To volunteer for AMR, email Paula Ray at [email protected] or call 07709 534366.

Action Medical Research has had a hand in many medical breakthroughs since being established in 1952, first developing UK polio vaccines, and then the use of ultrasound in pregnancy.

The charity is appealing for further support to fund its research which is focused on meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as other rare conditions.
