A post on social media for the International Kite Festival, held this weekend on Southsea Common, said the team were working with experts and authorities to closely monitor the weather forecast.

The message read: ‘While we and the Kite Society are committed to running as much of a programme as possible if conditions safely permit, it is becoming increasingly likely that the expected adverse weather could impact our event, especially on Saturday.

‘Currently there will be some Kites flying on Saturday and Sunday's programme of kite flying remains unchanged. Unfortunately there won't be our usual trade stalls and entertainment to accompany the kite flying this year; although it is planned that catering concessions will still be onsite.’

Social media updates will be posted as the team continue to monitor the weather.
