Pupils at Westbourne Primary School released the video ‘Tim Peake’s coming home’ on Friday (June 17), to welcome back the ESA astronaut after six months in space.
The video shows all the children at the primary school singing along to words they wrote to the tune of the 1996 song ‘football’s coming home’.
Tim Peake tweeted from his account: “Huge thanks to the staff and children at my old school Westbourne Primary for the welcome home song... magic!”

Project manager, Mr Newnham said: “We came up with the idea three weeks ago, I had written an article about Tim Peake’s return but I wanted to do something that would involve the children at the school too, especially as Westbourne was Tim’s primary school.
“My article was titled ‘Tim Peake coming home’ – nothing special, but then when I heard the football song ‘football’s coming home’ for Euro 2016 I started thinking.”
Simon continued: “I wrote a few words for the song, and so did the children.
“It is such a simple idea but when you give it to children they just run with it – the boys and girls used their own imaginations and the result was just extraordinary.”
Headteacher of Westbourne Primary, Steven Potter, said before unveiling the masterpiece to the children’s parents: “Tim Peake, we are so proud of you and wish you all the very best when you come down to earth tomorrow.
“It is absolutely amazing what the children have achieved with this video and thank you to Mark Blaney and Simon Newnham for all your help.”
