Waterlooville actor Jayme's hopes for big screen stardom after role in horror flick

Jayme Swiftt, 30, appeared in the horror film K-Shop, which was shown in cinemas in April before being released on DVD earlier this month.

Set in a kebab shop, the ‘Sweeney Todd-inspired’ K-Shop is a gory thriller about a man avenging the murder of his father by drunken hooligans.

Jayme, who shot his scenes over one night in Bournemouth city centre, played Danny – a ‘pub golfer’ who gets in a fight with a man dressed as an Oompa-Loompa character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Jayme, who was born in Portsmouth and now lives in Waterlooville, said: ‘It was a great experience, and I’ve had a few more offers of work as a result.’

Jayme started his career in 2008, taking on extra roles and acting in student films, but K-Shop is his first speaking role in a feature film.

Jayme got his first taste of stardom as he was welcomed on to the red carpet for the premiere of the movie at Odeon in Bournemouth.

K-Shop was given screenings in selected cinemas in London, Brighton, Southampton and other locations across Hampshire.

The DVD of K-Shop was then released on August 1 – Jayme’s 30th birthday – featuring Jayme in his colourful pub golf costume on the back cover.

He said: ‘I went down to HMV on my birthday and bought a couple of copies just to keep the sales up!’

Jayme starred alongside a number of big British names in K-Shop, including The Office star Ewen MacIntosh and Harry Reid, who plays Ben Mitchell in BBC soap opera Eastenders. Although they didn’t film any scenes together, Jayme says that he stays in contact with Reid.

He said: ‘We met at the premiere and got along like brothers, we even took a couple of selfies.’

Appearing in feature films isn’t where the dream ends for Jayme. He has strong aspirations to appear on stage as well as screen one day.

Jayme said: ‘I’ll probably do theatre at some point because I’ve got that entertainment element – I would love to do panto.’

The 18-rated K-Shop may not be family-friendly entertainment, but Jayme has also made background appearances in some of the biggest summer blockbusters of recent years – from War Horse to Captain America: The First Avenger, where he was filmed next to Hollywood royalty Tommy Lee Jones.

Looking ahead to a bright future in acting, Jayme has also set his sights on screenwriting after writing his own film script.

‘I want to get local people involved, as well as a few well-known names.’
