We hope to raise more than last year

Last year The Nomads hosted their tournament at Portsmouth RFC’s ground. However, due to pitch maintenance and construction at their ground The Nomads have had to relocate.

This meant that tournament director, Scott Kelsall, had much to deliberate and discuss and we are happy to announce that the tournament will go ahead at Havant RFC’s ground.

Last year the club raised over £3,000 for charity, as did the club in the tournament the year before.

This year, with more backing from the community, the club hope and intend to surpass that number and raise as much money as possible for charity.

The tournament will take place on August 13.

Twelve teams will compete in the men’s competition and four teams will compete in the females’ competition.

With 16 teams playing, The Nomads expect to raise lots of money for charity, all the while having a brilliant day out in the sun with local vendors, bouncy castle for kids and a bar for the grown- ups.

The tournament director Scott Kelsall is looking forward to getting under way, but knows there is much to be done.

He said: ‘I’m delighted the tournament has been given the go-ahead.

‘I have managed to secure a location for the tournament and now my focus is on gaining sponsors and getting other organisations on board to make this tournament the most special one yet.’

The Southsea Nomads RFC is the smallest rugby team in Portsmouth.

Their desire to help out the local area and do what they can for charity has been ingrained in their club’s ethos since their founding nearly four decades ago.

Ken Walker, club chairman, said: ‘I could not be prouder of my club.

‘When I was one of the founder members 38 years ago I never imagined we’d be hosting countywide tournaments.

‘My thanks have to go to Scott and his team for making this all happen.’
