PEOPLE in Whiteley are being invited to their own Olympic event this weekend.

Go For Gold! at the town’s Meadowside rec will feature plenty of unusual competitive activities, including the beast assault course, football slalom, tent pitching, kickboxing, tennis, space hopper racing, triathlon, a buzz wire, and wellie wanging.

The opening ceremony at 1pm on Saturday will feature Olympic gymnast Kelly Simm, carrying a torch from the 1948 London Olympics.

At the end of the afternoon there will be medal ceremonies for winners and all participants.

The day, organised by Whiteley Parish Council, will also feature displays and music from local groups, plus a bouncy castle, face painting and ice cream, cakes and refreshments.
