Why Indian restaurant in Portsmouth has scooped national award

AN INDIAN restaurant based in Southsea has collected a highly-coveted national award for its curry.

The Akash Indian Restaurant in Albert Road received a prize of being a '˜highly commended' restaurant at the recent English Curry Awards in Dudley.

Restaurant manager Faz Ahmed said: '˜I'm delighted that we were highly commended by the English Curry Awards '“ it was a great achievement for us who have worked hard to promote healthy Indian cooking.

'˜We very much champion people not be afraid to ask for there food to have less oil, or olive oil to be used instead, as well as less sugar or salt.

'˜We feel encouraged to work with schools, colleges and the university to further promote healthy eating.

'˜Most awards you have to enter but they approached us which shows our message is getting being noticed nationally.

'˜As ever we are very proud to represent Portsmouth and the great people who make up this city.'
