OVER 20 years Charlotte Cornelius’ name has become synonymous with stunning, one-off pieces of jewellery.

And last week the designer, from Hayling Island, was honoured for her work with the Woman in Fashion award at The News’ Woman of the Year Awards 2013.

The 47-year-old, of Bacon Lane, is one of the driving forces behind the May Days Arts Trail on the island, where artists open up their studios to the public.

She said: ‘It’s come as a total surprise. When I found out I’d been nominated I didn’t expect to win.

‘It’s very flattering.

‘I’ve got lots of new plans which will be coming out in December.

‘I’m sure this award will really help me.

I’m very proud to have won this award, it’s a real honour.’

Charlotte’s precious stones are ethically sourced and timeless.

Also in the running was Cheryl Diment from Eliza Mabel, a successful children’s fashion line, also based on Hayling Island.

Cheryl was highly commended for the stunning clothes and accessories she creates and sources for proms, christenings and weddings.
