Woman rescued from Southsea seafront after slipping and 'breaking leg' near sea wall

A WOMAN suffered a suspected broken leg after falling on rocks along Southsea seafront this evening.

Firefighters rescued the woman, who had become trapped between two rocks after slipping and injuring herself during an evening stroll near the Pyramids Centre.

A team from Southsea, led by crew manager Steve Jolliffe, attended the scene at 9.54pm and were supported by paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service.

The woman, who was given gas and air by ambulance crews, was freed by firefighter Bradley Yates and taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

Crew manager Dave Norgate said: ‘The woman had been out on a walk on the large stones when the slipped and possibly broke her leg. She couldn’t get herself out from between the rocks, she was completely stuck.’

The rescue took a few minutes, with Southsea firefighters returning to their base, in Somers Road, by 10.40pm.
