A group of 17 employees from a Portsmouth company are taking on the Morrisons Great South Run this year to raise money in memory of teenager Tom Prince.
Your Centre, which offers insurance solutions for military personnel on behalf of The Military Mutual, has rounded up almost half of its employees to run the event in support of the Tom Prince Cancer Trust.
A total of 17 of the company’s 43 employees – including CEO Adrian Ingham, will join up to 25,000 runners on the start line of the run when it marks its 25th year in Portsmouth on Sunday, October 25.
The team picked the Tom Prince Cancer Trust out of a hat full of local charities to help the runners decide who to support.
The Trust was set up in memory of the Portsmouth teenager, who died the day before his 16th birthday from osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.
Stevie Starr, business development co-ordinator of Your Centre, based in the Civic Offices, is organising the team with her colleague Sean Hart.
She said: ‘We think it’s really important to support local charities that don’t get as much funding as the big well-known charities.
‘Most of our staff are from Portsmouth and that’s where our office is located so it was important for us to make sure this charity would influence our local community.’
‘The Morrisons Great South Run was an obvious choice for a fundraising event as it is local and we can practice the route whenever we want,’ Stevie says.
‘A lot of those running are regular joggers and train together on weekends.
‘Booking on to do the run has boosted morale in the office and we are all really looking forward to it.’
Your Centre Ltd is a subsidiary of Regis Mutual Management, which offers businesses high quality call centre sales and service programmes across all sectors.
The course of the Morrisons Great South Run takes in Portsmouth landmarks including HMS
Victory and HMS Warrior, and ends with a final two miles along Southsea seafront. Sponsor
