A DOG died in a kitchen fire in Hayling Island.

As reported in The News, firefighters were called to a fire in Fishery Lane on Friday evening.

The occupants of the house managed to escape but firefighters have now confirmed that the pet dog died.

Jo Gray, of Hampshire Fire and Rescue, said: ‘The occupants have done the right thing by contacting us and waiting for the emergency services instead of entering the property themselves.

‘Although it’s not a very good outcome, the occupants did do the right thing by contacting us.’

A fire investigation officer was at the scene over the weekend to determine what caused the fire but it is not thought to be suspicious.
