CHILDREN and staff at a day nursery have raised hundreds of pounds for a charity helping people in need by taking part in a pier-to-pier walk.

Parents and grandparents also joined in with the stroll from South Parade Pier to Clarence Pier in Southsea organised by Tops Day Nursery at 1000 Lakeside in Portsmouth.

More than £345 was raised for the Hadland Foundation which helps people in Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset.

The walk was started by Tops Day Nursery mascot Marty Mouse, along with Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Steven Wylie.

Paul Reade, foundation manager said: ‘It was great the Cllr Steven Wylie was able to start our inaugural Pier-to-Pier walk.

‘However, the real stars were the children.’
