FIREFIGHTERS were called out following a fire at the back of a house.

Southsea crews attended the incident at the property in New Road, Portsmouth, around 12.30am on Saturday.

A pile of sawdust outside had caught fire and caused smoke to spread into the house as the windows were open.

Crew manager Alex Hay said the fire alarm then went off and alerted residents to the situation.

Two fire engines dealt with the fire.
