Plan to cut mobile tips in West Sussex

PLANS to axe mobile rubbish tips in a district have been criticised by residents.

West Sussex County Council provides mobile household waste and recycling sites across the country, including at Hambrook, near Emsworth, once a week and at Bosham once a fortnight.

Selsey and the Witterings are also served.

But the Chichester-based authority has unveiled plans to stop providing all mobile sites as part of cost-cutting measures which could save it £2m a year.

Residents have commented on the Facebook page of the Chichester Observer, the sister paper of The News.

One user wrote: ‘Ridiculous to even consider removing this service, especially for communities stuck out on a limb like Selsey.’

A consultation is under way. Hampshire County Council has launched similar cost-cutting proposals and Hayling tip could close under the plan.
