Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: Monday 5 September to Sunday 11 September 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 2 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

Both carriageways between the slip roads at junction 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 11 or junction 13 and return.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 4a including the junction 4 entry slip road and the junction 4a exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331, A30 and A327.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4a including the the M25 clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound, junctions 3 and 4 entry slip roads and junctions 3, 4 and 4a exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 7 September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A30 and A327.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including the junction 3 entry slip road and the clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads from the M3 junction 2 northbound to M25 junction 12 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 7 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322, A30 and M25.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4a including junctions 3 and 4 entry slip roads and junctions 4 and 4a exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 8 September and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322, A30 and A327.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 3 including the junction 4 entry slip road and the junction 3 exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331, A30 and A322.

M3 junction 5 Hook, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will take place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the northbound carriageway and exit slip road overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 8 September.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: signage

Work to keep road users informed by repairing a damaged sign at the junction takes place this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 6 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 7.

M3 junction 11 Winchester, Hampshire: barrier repair, drainage and resurfacing

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier along the southbound slip road finishes this week, with drainage maintenance and resurfacing taking place this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 5 September for 5 nights. There will be narrow lanes in place 24 hours a day for the duration of the scheme.

A lane closure will be in place on the northbound exit slip road overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 8 September for 2 nights.

The northbound exit slip road will be fully closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 10.

M3 junction 12 Chandlers Ford, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will take place this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 6 September for 2 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via junctions 11 and 13.

M4 junction 7 to 8/9 Maidenhead, Berkshire: street lighting

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining street lighting along the M4 takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 September for 2 nights.

M4 junction 8/9 Maidenhead Berkshire: signage

Work to keep road users informed by repairing a damaged sign at the junction takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound approach to the junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 9 September.

M4 junction 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: surveys and road marking

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys and renewal of the road markings at the junction takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways, the slip roads and the roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 September for 3 nights.

M4 junction 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: resurfacing and surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing near Membury Service Area and structural surveys near Baydon takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 6 and Friday 9 September.

M27 junction 3 Southampton, Hampshire: utility diversion

Work to maintain safety by diverting utility cables as part of a scheme to replace the A3057 Romsey Road bridge finishes this week. Narrow lane running will be in place on the bridge during both day and night time hours until Friday 9 September.

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the westbound carriageway near Southampton Airport takes place this week. Lanes 1 and 2 of the westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 8 September for 2 nights.

M27 junction 7 Hedge End, Hampshire: electrical maintenance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical maintenance at the junction takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound approach and on the roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 6 September.

M27 junctions 11 and 12 Portsmouth, Hampshire: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the M27 continues this week. Overnight, between 9pm and 6am, the following slip roads at junctions 11 and 12 will be closed:

Wednesday 7 September – junction 11 eastbound entry slip road, junction 12 eastbound exit and entry slip roads, and the slip from M275 northbound carriageway to the Paulsgrove Interchange (junction 12)

Thursday 8 September – junction 12 westbound entry slip road, slip from M275 northbound carriageway to the M27 westbound carriageway

Clearly signed diversions will be in place using the A27 and A3 Northern Parade.

M271 junction 1 Lordshill, Hampshire: congestion reduction

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety as part of the major Lidl development continues this week. The M271 between the exit and entry slip roads will be closed in both directions overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place up and over the junction.

A3 Grayshott, Hampshire: signage

Work to keep road users informed by repairing a damaged sign takes place this week. Lane 1 of the southbound carriageway near Hazel Grove will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 5 September.

A3 Ham Barn, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the northbound carriageway takes place this week. The northbound carriageway from the A272 Midhurst junction to Longmoor will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 8 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A272, B2070 and Longmoor Road, re-joining the A3 at Griggs Green.

A3(M) junction 1 Horndean to 5 Bedhampton, Hampshire: central reservation maintenance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out maintenance along the central reservation takes place this week. Lane 2 of both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 September for 3 nights.

A31 Ringwood, Hampshire: signage

Work to keep road users informed by repairing damaged signs near The Fish Inn and Poulner Hill takes place this week. The West Street entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B3347 Ringwood Interchange.

In addition, a lane closure will be in place on the eastbound carriageway near Poulner Hill overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 5 September.

A34 Islip, Oxfordshire: signage and road marking

Work to improve journeys by carrying out repairs to a damaged sign and renewal of the road markings at the junction takes place this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 5 September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the Kidlington and Weston-on-the-Green junctions.

A34 Peartree Interchange (Oxford), Oxfordshire: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the A34 takes place this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 6 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Botley Interchange.

A34 Chilton to Oxford, Oxfordshire: drainage maintenance

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will take place this week. Various lane closures will be in place on the southbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 6 September for 4 nights.

A34 Tot Hill, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the northbound carriageway takes place this week. The northbound carriageway from the Tot Hill Services junction to the A4 Speen junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B4640 towards Newbury, north through Newbury, then west along the A4 Bath Road.

A303 Norton, Hampshire: signage repair

Work to keep road users informed by repairing a damaged sign near the junction takes place this week. The westbound exit and entry slips for Norton will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 7 September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the Bullington Interchange and Micheldever junctions.

A303 Andover, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the eastbound carriageway near the A3057 Winchester Road junction takes place this week. The eastbound entry slip road and lane 1 of the main eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 7 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A343 Salisbury Road junction.
