ROUNDERS players are needed for Sunday afternoon pub games.

A rounders league was held between a number of Southsea pubs for nine years, organised by Kath Birch, landlady of The Phoenix in Duncan Road.

Miss Birch didn’t run it last year for personal reasons but this year it will be back and bigger than ever.

She said: ‘My mum was dying last year so it didn’t run but we’re really looking forward to it beginning again.

‘It’s a brilliant afternoon for all the family. We take the children down, have a game, then we all go back to the host pub for a barbecue for an hour then back to our own pubs.

‘This year we’re holding a series of friendlies, getting people involved ready for proper league matches next year.’

Anyone can turn up for this Sunday’s clash against the 5th Hants pub on Southsea Common, in front of the Wheelbarrow pub from 1pm.
