A HAND-written poem by Captain Robert Scott is estimated to reach up to £4,000 when it is sold at auction next week.

The explorer, who was based at HMS Vernon during the late 1800s, wrote the 12-line poem for a monthly almanac called the South Polar Times in 1902, while he was commanding the Antarctic Discovery Expedition.

None of his writings have been auctioned for 40 years or more. Bonhams estimate it will sell for between £3,000 and £4,000 when it is auctioned on Wednesday, May 8.
