Poignant services mark Holocaust Memorial Day in Southsea and Havant

PEOPLE gathered in Portsmouth and Havant to remember victims of the Holocaust.

Dignitaries, veterans and members of the Jewish community marked Holocaust Memorial Day with poignant services.

At the D-Day Museum, in Southsea, the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Cllr Frank Jonas led the ceremony with other guests reading poems and stories.

Around 80 people attended the midday service.

Cllr Jonas said: ‘We are asking people to learn lessons from the past and fight for a better future.’

In Havant, the ceremony was moved into the plaza with nearly 100 people attending.

Holocaust survivor Walter Kammerling was a special guest at the service.
