THE front counter at Gosport police station is set to move.

From Tuesday the front counter will be at Gosport Borough Council’s town hall in High Street.

Opening hours will be on Tuesday from 10am to 6pm, and on Saturday from 10m and 6pm.

The counter will be shut between 2pm and 3pm, and on bank holidays. It will have a yellow phone so people can call the force when it is shut.

The move is part of a major shake-up to the force’s estate driven by budget cuts.

Hampshire police’s Gosport district commander Sharon Woolrich said: ‘I’m very happy to welcome the front counter staff to our base in Gosport’s town hall, and the neighbourhood policing team will continue to be based in and will be out working in the heart of the local community as they always have been.’

Michael Lane, Hampshire police and crime commissioner, said: ‘This move for the front counter services with the neighbourhood team, and alongside the council, will continue to keep residents safer.’
