A man died after falling down the stairs in his home.
Michael Craig, 61, died at his home in Waterlooville after taking a large amount of paracetamol and codeine.
An inquest at Portsmouth Guildhall heard how Mr Craig had been suffering from depression.
His daughter, Joanna Craig, said: 'We hadn't spoken in two or three years. The most recent contact I had was in the weeks leading up to his death after his aunt called me because she was worried about him.
'I rang him and rang his GP because he sounded dreadful. He was depressed. He sounded like a child and he was crying.
'He said he was depressed and that the anti-depressants weren't working.'
Police had to force their way into the house in Cotwell Avenue, Waterlooville, on June 3 last year, when Mr Craig was found in a hallway at the bottom of the stairs.
There were patches of blood over the walls and he was bleeding after suffering head injuries.
David Horsley, Portsmouth and South East Hampshire coroner, recorded a verdict of accidental death.
