Police given more time to quiz hammer attack suspect

DETECTIVES investigating a serious assault on a 17-year-old girl in Shearer Road, Portsmouth, have been granted an extension to continue questioning a 28-year-old man from Portsmouth.

The suspect was arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of attempted murder.

It comes after a victim was viciously beaten by a man armed with a hammer last month.

The extension is due to end this morning.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the attack to call 101, quoting Operation Gather or 0800 555 111.

Alternatively, they can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
