A MAN who died when his car crashed into a tree and then burst into flames has been named.

Stephen Dent, 37, of Aylesbury Road, Copnor, was killed in the freak crash on the A27 at Havant.

Mr Dent was travelling westbound along the A27 when his blue Ford Escort left the carriageway and crashed into a tree at about 8.50pm on Thursday, March 17.

He suffered serious head injuries in the crash and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police are still unsure why the car left the road and are keen to speak to any drivers who may have seen the Ford Escort before the collision.

Large yellow signs have been erected at the scene of the crash to help the witness appeal.

PC Ian Skingsley, of Fratton Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the crash or may have seen the vehicle travelling along the A27 prior to the crash.’

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Skingsley on 101.
