MORE than 800 people tuned in to watch Hampshire County Council’s first meeting broadcast on the internet.

Last month’s budget meeting was the first to be screened live and made available as archive footage. It comes as the £205,000 cost of the web equipment was criticised by some councillors.

But leader Ken Thornber said: ‘We certainly opened up this debate to an audience far greater than we have ever seen at any previous council meeting.’
