A PROJECT which involved the public deciding how to allocate crucial funding has been hailed a success.
Havant’s community safety team was given £15,000 to support domestic abuse prevention.
Havant was one of only six local authorities to be given the opportunity to allocate the funding in such a way.
There were several evenings prior to the final decisions were made. Councillor Olwyn Kennedy said: ‘The whole exercise was completed within the very short timescale of only four weeks.
‘The Home Office publicly complimented our officers. The money was awarded to a wide variety of bidders – from very modest sums of only £109.46, suggested by young people directly affected by domestic abuse, to larger amounts for work with victims or in prevention initiatives to protect potential future victims of domestic abuse.’
