GOSPORT MP Caroline Dinenage spoke up in Parliament about the threat of piracy to our economy.
After a debate in the House of Commons yesterday the MP backed government proposals to allow armed guards on board ships.
She said the proposals need to be put into place quickly.
Ms Dinenage said: ‘I welcome the proposals to allow armed guards on board ships and hope the regulations come into force soon in order to protect our shippers against the blight of piracy.
‘It is vital ministers recognise the hugely detrimental effect of piracy both on the safety and economic security of UK shipping.’
The Gosport MP also quizzed shipping minister Mike Penning on the effect piracy has on the economy.
