A statement released by Fareham Borough Council yesterday said former Mayor and Councillor, Alderman Ruth Godrich died at home on Monday.

The well-respected borough councillor represented Locks Heath from 1979 to 1983, 1990 to 1994 and 1996 to 2012.

She served as mayor in 2009 to 2010.

Executive leader of the council, Councillor Sean Woodward, said: ‘Ruth was a dear friend and colleague who will be sadly missed.

‘She dedicated much of her life to working hard for the community as a councillor for Locks Heath and as mayor.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, most especially her children Juliette and Simon.’

As mayor, she raised money for The Rowans Hospice and Naomi House, the NSPCC, the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association and the Let Us Play Scheme.
