PLANS have been submitted to turn part of an industrial unit into a synagogue.
The application put into Gosport Borough Council wants to change the use from office to a place of worship, making it the first synagogue in the town.
A section of the ground floor at Extra Large Group Digital, off Wingate Lane, in Elson, will carry on being used as a business printing materials for the synagogue to use.
In the application, it says: ‘The building consists of a print works used for the printing of religious materials and an office from which the religious charity conducts its nationwide business.
‘The print works forms the majority of the floor space of the unit and although the synagogue would not be an ancillary use, it acts as part of the wider business operation being carried out on the site.
Cllr Mark Hook, leader of the council, said: ‘We recognise that we are a multi-faith society and it is only right that people have the chance to carry out their faith.’
