A PUSH is on to build stronger links between Portsmouth and Southampton.

Councillor Lee Hunt, Portsmouth’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, met Southampton’s culture spokesman, Cllr Matt Tucker, yesterday to discuss how to create better connections between the cities.

They talked about the need to link cultural archives and form joint bids for funding from organisations such as the Arts Council England.

The focus was also about how to advertise both places better to tourists.

The meeting took place at Southampton City Council’s civic centre.

Cllr Hunt, of Portsmouth’s Liberal Democrat group, said: ‘We talked about how to improve the offer of both cities.

‘We were looking at more ways we can work together to bring in more investment and promote the tourism economy.

‘Southampton is learning from how we are putting on events and it has attracted some big commercial-led regeneration which we can learn from.’
