In bloom accolades for HMS Collingwood

A NAVY training base won two awards at the Britain in Bloom ceremony.

HMS Collingwood, in Fareham, won gold in the Fareham in Bloom competition for the second year running and silver gilt in the South and South East in Bloom contest.

The accolades celebrate  the hard work of volunteers, both military and civilian, which started from a desire to introduce honey bees to the site.

Individual departments at the site adopted patches of ground and planted flowers, shrubs and bulbs. It was getting people involved in improving their environment that impressed the Britain in Bloom judges.

Two years on and more than 60 jars of honey have been produced from one hive with plans to start another.
