The council is considering a BMX pump track, a short looping bike trail featuring various dirt mounds which provides a safe environment for people to practice BMX, which became an Olympic sport in 2008.

A council spokesman said that there was no firm location planned for a track but if it went ahead the facility would be free for the public to use.

Council leader Cllr Donna Jones said: ‘As an administration we are committed to developing facilities across Portsmouth which is why we are looking at the potential for a BMX pump track in the north of the city.

‘This could be a fantastic family friendly addition to the sports facilities we already have. However there’s no point progressing the idea if people wouldn’t use it so we want to hear from as many people as possible to see how popular it would be.’

The council’s poll is open until the end of Sunday, February 7. To take part search ‘BMX survey’ at portsmouth.gov.uk
