Fareham MP Mrs Braverman hit out after Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan backed Labour's Sir Keir Starmer's call for 'all options' to be kept on the table '“ including a decision to remain in the European Union.

Mrs Braverman said Labour is '˜guilty' of letting down voters by even suggesting a vote on any deal with the Europeans Union could pave the way to a second referendum.

Speaking to The News, Mrs Braverman said: '˜Labour's position on Brexit is deplorable and not only are they now saying that we should somehow re-run the biggest democratic exercise because the result didn't go the way they want '“ they're saying they would use it to potentially think again about leaving '“ that's not what the people voted from in Fareham or in the country.

'Labour is really guilty now of letting down and betraying the millions of people in Britain who voted to leave the European Union.'

Last week Mr Morgan said he supports shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir's views that if there is to be no general election soon then a vote '˜must include the option to campaign for a public vote.'

His views provoked a backlash online, with readers of The News on Facebook saying Britain had already voted.

Mrs Braverman's comments come as former foreign secretary Boris Johnson outlined his vision for Brexit in a 4,000-word column in the Daily Telegraph, calling for a Super Canada free-trade deal.

He wants the British government to ditch prime minister Theresa May's Chequers plan '“ backed by her cabinet before Mr Johnson and former Brexit secretary David Davis quit in July.

Mrs Braverman would not be drawn on Mr Johnson's vision, saying only that '˜we live in a healthy democracy, people express their views'.

But she pointed out the government was working hard to ensure Britain's departure on March 29 was success '“ recently issuing 70 technical notices to business in the '˜unlikely' event of no-deal situation.

In a statement Mr Morgan said the Conservative Party was letting leave and remain voters down. He added: '˜This is serious, and I won't play political games with people's jobs. No deal is no good for people in my city and I won't stand by and write the Tories a blank cheque on Brexit.'
