SCHOOLS are being called on to help improve connections between young people and future employers.

A Portsmouth City Council scrutiny panel has challenged state schools to appoint ‘business mentors’ and has asked the council’s education team to set up events to bring schools and companies together.

And the panel suggests articles should feature in council publications that pinpoint the range of employment and training opportunities available.

The council’s Tory cabinet will decide whether to approve the proposals at its next meeting on Thursday, which is being held in the Guildhall from 1pm.
