Campaign hopes to encourage walking

A CAMPAIGN to promote the benefits of walking, including reducing congestion and improving air quality, has been launched by Winchester City Council.

The authority announced the launch of its campaign, Feet First, earlier this week.

Over the course of 2016, the council will promote walking with the help of charity Living Streets.

Events and activities will take place all over the Winchester district, including Bishop’s Waltham, Denmead and Whiteley.

As part of the launch, Feet First will support Living Street’s Put Your Feet to Work week-long walking challenge, which begins on Monday.

Cllr Frank Pearson, the portfolio holder for environment, health and wellbeing, said: ‘Feet First is a great campaign and I hope as many people can get involved encouraging children to take an interest in their surrounding community and environment.’
