A UNION boss has criticised the decision by a council to back a hike in annual allowances.

Some Chichester district councillors could be in line for an increase of more than 40 per cent. Proposals from an independent remuneration panel will see basic payouts rise from £3,900 to £4,300.

Vic Willis, from the regional Unison office, said the rise was unfair when workers were struggling to make ends meet.
