Community leader will not stand in Havant election

Tim Dawes will not be representing the Green Party for the first time in 16 years.

He has stood many times in local elections in Havant and three times in general elections.

Mr Dawes told The News: ‘It will be a strange election period this year as it’s the first year for many that I won’t be a Green Party candidate for my local district or county ward. I have also stood three times as a general election candidate.’

Elections take place on May 5.

The candidates have not been announced yet.

Council elections take place for wards across Havant, Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and Winchester, as well as a by-election in Clanfield and Finchdean ward for East Hampshire council.

There will also be elections for Petersfield St Mary’s Town Council.

East Hampshire and Chichester councils have an intake of councillors every four years and are not holding elections for district councillors this year.

The local council elections will coincide with elections for Hampshire’s police and crime commissioner. The police area covers 14 local authorities in Hampshire.
