Council to freeze price of sport pitches

THE price of hiring sport pitches has been frozen by a council.

Portsmouth City Council has made the decision which means there will be no increase in costs for council-managed facilities across the city including football, netball, rugby, tennis and cricket pitches.

In addition, Great Salterns Golf Course season ticket prices have been reduced for those aged 21 and under.

Councillor Linda Symes, the council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: ‘I’m delighted we have been able to freeze the price of sports pitches.

‘We have to make a charge to cover the work that goes into maintaining these facilities but it’s important we keep it as low as possible in order to encourage as many people as possible to participate in sport. I’m particularly pleased with the new prices for younger golfers and hopefully this will mean more youngsters can get out on the fairways.’

Pitches can be booked through Parkwood Community Leisure on (023) 9262 6509.
