A DISTRICT council leader has hit out over plans to reduce the county’s waste recycling centres’ hours of operation and introduce charges.

East Hampshire District Council leader Ferris Cowper criticised Hampshire County Council over the plans to close all waste centres on Thursdays, while cutting their opening hours for the remaining week, and introducing charges for users from outside the area.

Cllr Cowper said: ‘It is ironic that this comes at a time when councils are urging people to recycle more than they do at present.’
