PORTSMOUTH City Council’s leader Cllr Gerald Vernon Jackson is now leader of all Lib Dem councillors in England and Wales.

Cllr Vernon-Jackson, who will stay on as the council’s leader, was elected unapposed to the role, at the Local Government Association.

He has been deputy leader at the LGA for the last six years, and leader of Portsmouth City Council for the last seven.

He replaces Liverpool councillor Richard Kemp in the role.

He said: ‘Richard Kemp has been incredible for the Lib Dems. I’ll make sure ministers and party leadership know Lib Dem councillors’ views across the country.’
