THE body which will be responsible for running a new community centre is set to be decided next week.

Fareham Borough Council’s ruling executive will make the decision on who will run the new £2m Portchester Community Centre at its meeting on June 11.

But the decision will be made behind closed doors because the council says financially sensitive information will be discussed.

Portchester Community Association, which has been running the existing centre at Westlands Grove in Portchester, has entered a bid and Portchester Community School is also known to have been invited to tender a bid.

The Portchester Community Centre Task and Finish panel, which is overseeing the project for the council, has already made its recommendation on who should win the process, but this was also done in secret.

Panel chairwoman cllr Connie Hockley said: ‘I’m afraid I can’t discuss it, it’s a confidential matter involving financial details which I can’t disclose.’
