COUNCILLORS have thrown out a bid to get a report into Mike Hancock’s conduct published.

As reported, Nigel Pascoe produced a dossier for Portsmouth City Council into claims that the Fratton councillor sexually assaulted a woman who came to him for help.

He has always denied that it happened.

It was decided at a meeting of the full council this afternoon, following on from legal advice sent to councillors in advance, that it was inappropriate to release it since the allegations are subject to a High Court hearing.

Lib Dem Cllr Darren Sanders said: ‘This shouldn’t be in a column in the newspaper or dealt with by a council committee, it should be heard by a court.’

But Cllr John Ferrett, Labour group leader who along with Cllr Luke Stubbs, deputy Conservative group leader, asked for the report to be published, said: ‘We need to release that report and show our wish to restore our reputation as a city council.’
